Thankful for Moms!

This is a very special weekend. It’s time for show and tell! If there is any way possible for you to show your Mom love and appreciation while telling her the whole how much she means to you..this is a great weekend to do it!(By the way…not this weekend only)

If you are one, such as I am, that will miss your Mom because she has passed away. I offer these thoughts:

First, go ahead and cry. Go ahead with the ugly cry…after all, your Mom has always understood that crying face you make, even when no one else did.

Second, recognize that what you feel comes from a broken heart. Not much need to describe that, since if you have it- you know it.

Three, realize that your sadness is often mixed with regret. Yes, yes it is.

We cannot keep ourselves from looking back and wishing we had done things differently. That’s the interesting this about hind sight…we don’t have it till it’s in our hind -sight. But please understand this…if there is regret mixed with your sorrow, you should deal with that right now.

How?

Well first, ask Jesus to redeem it. This is what Jesus has come to do. He doesn’t take it and try to make it seem as if it didn’t happen, no, He redeems it. He gives it value…He changes what was meant for evil, and makes it GOOD. Just like the kid picking up old coke bottles to take to the store and get that nickel. God takes the “throw away” things of your life and gives them new value, new meaning, and new life.

Second, take this “redeemed regret” and use it to help people. You will IMMEDIATELY recognize people who are currently walking the road you once walked. You will recognize the burden they are bearing better than they will. This is the nature of redemption. The redeemed always desire others to experience redemption, so ACT on this desire. It might be hard to break into someone’s situation with help, but in the end they will thank you for your help.

Third, think of the special things that you have in your life because of the special things in your Mom’s life. You might just find that being a chip- off- the- old block ain’t such a bad thing after all.

Fourth, spend much time talking to Jesus. If there is anything in my life that I remember my Mom saying…and saying it A LOT…it is “talk to Jesus about it” Pretty much any time I brought a situation to her that I was dealing with she would bring Jesus into it. Thanks, Mom.

So can I give you some advice from my Mom?

Tell your situation to Jesus.

One more thing. Betty Evers taught me the proper terminology for an old Hymn. I believe you’ll find it in the green Broadman, . She calls it “The Tattle Tale Song” you might find it in the table of contents under a different name, “Tell it to Jesus” I guess they didn’t know the actual name. I think maybe I’ll just post it for ya. Get the Broadman out anyway, it has hours and hours of good singing for you.

Much love to My Mom today, and from her and from me…much love to YOU!
